For many years now article marketing has been the "go to" marketing tool for small business owners who want to market their websites. Increasingly though, I've noticed that interest is expanding to larger companies as well. I received this question recently from someone who works at a large corporation:
"Do you think that article marketing would work for a large company? I know it works well for small business owners and that it's great for establishing the expertise of an author, but as a large company we want to bring attention to the company and not any particular person in our organization. Also, I don't know if our traditional website would be very marketable. A lot of people these days have blogs and sites with lots of informational content, but our website is a static one that just has info about your company. Many thanks for your input on this!"
I'm so glad that someone asked this! There is no reason why submitting articles wouldn't work for a large company, and I know many SEO specialists who work with large companies and who use article marketing as part of an overall online marketing plan for the company.
I just want to be sure that you understand how article marketing works, and I think that will help you to understand why business article marketing is not restricted to just small businesses, but would actually work for any size of business.
Article marketing is great for establishing the expertise of an author, but that's not the main benefit by a long shot. The main reason that people engage in creating free reprint articles is to get a higher search engine ranking for their website. This is how article marketing helps improve a web page's ranking:
You submit articles on the general topic of your website. These would not be articles about your business or your website, but they would instead be articles that teach your readers things that they need to know about your general niche.
Along with every article you submit you will also create what is called a resource box. A resource box is where you tell a little more about your company, provide a link to your website, and give a reason to click the link to your website. You could list an author name in the resource box if you wanted, but it's not required. Many people who are marketing on behalf of a large company will just list the company name rather than a specific person.
In your resource box, you will have the opportunity to link words of your choosing to your website. The words that you would choose to link are called "keywords". Keywords are words of special significance for your website, words that are accurate in classifying what your website is about and what people are typing into Google to reach websites such as yours.
Through that link in your resource box where the keywords are linked to your website, you are sending very powerful information to Google and the other search engines about what your website is about. This helps Google and the other search engines to classify your website and rank it appropriately. With consistent marketing, ideally the pages on your website will show up high in the rankings when someone does a search for one of your keywords.
You can discover the best keywords for your website by using a keyword research tool--there are many of these available online. When you do keyword research, you will come up with a variety of different phrases associated with the topic of your website, and you will alternate using those phrases in your resource boxes each time you submit an article.
So, that is how article marketing helps business owners--it can help your website to get a higher ranking, and the higher the ranking the more people will be referred to your website. The more targeted visitors who are referred to your website, the more potential sales and business for you.
Article marketing works for all types of websites, whether they're the static traditional website or a blog. Even among small business owners, not everyone has a blog--many are marketing traditional websites.
I hope this helps explain how article marketing can work for people with businesses of all sizes. It's true that small business owners were the first to catch on to the power of article marketing, but now larger corporations are jumping on board too. The purpose of article marketing is to help drive targeted traffic to a website, and that's something that's desirable whether you're a solo business owner or have a huge organization.

Cyber marketing has now become an indispensable segment of e-commerce as well as the internet and World Wide Web related topics. Cyber marketing simply refers to a technique of attracting potential customers by advertising your products or services through such means as websites, emails, and banners.
Distributing articles online can be an effective way to build backlinks to your website -- when done correctly. This article explores how to choose the right topics for your article marketing campaign so that they will be widely accepted and distributed online.
Businesses go to so much trouble when there is one sure-fire, simple, very inexpensive way to attract new clients to a business: Teach a free class. That is what article marketing is like. Your articles are just like free classes. You teach your target readers something helpful in your article. Your resource box then says, "If you enjoyed this article you can visit my website and apply what you have learned."
Do you ever dread sitting down to write because you're just not sure what to write about? When you're doing article marketing, you need to create a steady flow of articles. Even if you feel stumped, I assure you--you have more creative writing ideas in you. You just need a little help in looking at your topic in a new way to come up with new writing ideas. Use these 15 article ideas to start your next brainstorming session.

In recent weeks, Japan and China have squared off over who owns a minor group of islands in the East China Sea. The unthinkable -- a perilous maritime war for seemingly trivial stakes -- no longer appears unthinkable. So how do you defend a group of uninhabited rocks and islets like the Senkaku/Diaoyu islands?

Bats harbor many types of coronaviruses and were probably the original source of the new coronavirus that appeared in the Middle East.
iStockphoto.comBats harbor many types of coronaviruses and were probably the original source of the new coronavirus that appeared in the Middle East.
On the surface, the new coronavirus detected in the Middle East this month looks quite similar to SARS. It apparently causes severe respiratory problems, and can be lethal.
But with viruses, the devil is in their details ? the genetic details.
Dutch virologists have just published the whole genome of the new coronavirus ? all 30,118 letters of its code. And, the sequence reveals that the mystery virus is most closely related to coronaviruses that infect bats in Southeast Asia.
In fact, the pathogen is more similar to two bat viruses than it is to the human SARS virus that sent the world into a panic when it infected nearly 8,000 people in 2003.
Virologist Ron Fouchier, who has done controversial work on bird flu viruses, led the sequencing effort of the SARS-like virus. He tells Shots the results suggest that the new coronavirus virus came from bats. "Bats harbor many coronaviruses, so it's logical to assume that bats are the natural reservoir" of the new pathogen, he says.
?"But this doesn't mean the Saudi man contracted the virus from bats," says Fouchier.
When viruses jump from animals to humans, there's usually a second animal that connects the natural carrier with humans. This species is called the amplifier because it increases the number of viral particles that can hop over into people.
With SARS, Fouchier says, it probably started off in bats and then jumped into an exotic animal, such as a civet cat, before it made its way to people.
This type of infection trajectory fits with what epidemiologists have seen, so far, for the new coronavirus.
In the past few weeks, John Watson and his team at Britain's Health Protection Agency have tracked down about 60 people who recently came in contact with one of the men infected with the virus. "None of these contacts have become seriously ill or shown any sign of being infected with the virus," Watson tells Shots.
Plus, there's nothing special happening where the sick man lived, such as an uptick in cases of respiratory illnesses. This is strong evidence that the virus came from an animal and that it probably can't yet move between people.
But to know for sure, Watson says, scientists need to find more cases of the new virus.
The genome sequence will be a big help on this front. Fouchier and his team just published a diagnostic test for the new virus, which doctors around the world can use to verify suspected cases of the disease.
Fouchier says that the genome may also give clues to drugs that may be effective against the virus.
Companies can also begin to design vaccines for the virus, Fouchier adds. "There are experimental vaccines for SARS, and these could be updated to work on the virus," he says. "All knowledge that we built for SARS is not lost."
So what's he doing next? First, taking a few steps backward. "We still need proof that the virus is the cause of the disease," he says. "We are currently starting animal experiments with macaques and ferrets to show that this virus actually makes animals sick. Many viruses don't."

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A federal judge on Thursday determined a California man behind a crudely produced anti-Islamic video that inflamed parts of the Middle East is a flight risk and ordered him detained.
Citing a lengthy pattern of deception, U.S. Central District Chief Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal said Nakoula Basseley Nakoula should be held after officials said he violated his probation from a 2010 check fraud conviction.
"The court has a lack of trust in this defendant at this time," Segal said.
Nakoula, 55, was arrested Thursday. He had eight probation violations, including lying to his probation officers and using aliases, and he might face new charges that carry a maximum two-year prison term, authorities said. Nakoula will remain behind bars until another hearing where a judge will rule if he broke the terms of his probation.
Nakoula wore beige pants and a collared shirt when he was led into the courtroom handcuffed and shackled. He appeared relaxed, smiling at one point before the hearing and conferring with his attorney.
After his 2010 conviction, Nakoula was sentenced to 21 months in prison and was barred from using computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.
In July, a 14-minute trailer for the film "Innocence of Muslims" was posted on YouTube, leading to protests around the Middle East. Nakoula, a Christian originally from Egypt, went into hiding after he was identified as the man behind the trailer, which depicts Muhammad as a womanizer, religious fraud and child molester.
In court Thursday, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Dugdale said Nakoula was flight risk, partially because of the uproar over the film. The violence in the Middle East broke out Sept. 11 and has spread since, killing dozens, including Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.
"He has every incentive to disappear," Dugdale said.
The hearing had an unusual wrinkle as the news media were banned from the courtroom, and reporters had to watch the proceedings on a TV in a different courthouse a couple blocks away. Court officials didn't give a reason for the decision.
Nakoula's attorney Steven Seiden sought to have the hearing closed and his client released on $10,000 bail. He argued Nakoula has checked in with his probation officer frequently and made no attempts to leave Southern California.
Seiden was concerned that Nakoula would be in danger in federal prison because of Muslim inmates, but prosecutors said he likely would be placed in protective custody.
The full story about Nakoula and the video still isn't known.
The movie was made last year by a man who called himself Sam Bacile. After the violence erupted, a man who identified himself as Bacile spoke to media outlets including The Associated Press, took credit for the film and said it was meant to portray the truth about Muhammad and Islam, which he called a cancer.
The next day, the AP determined there was no Bacile and linked the identity to Nakoula, a former gas station owner with a drug conviction and a history of using aliases. Federal authorities later confirmed there was no Bacile and that Nakoula was behind the movie.
Before going into hiding, Nakoula acknowledged to the AP that he was involved with the film, but said he only worked on logistics and management.
When the judge asked him during Thursday's hearing what his true name was, Nakoula said his name was Mark Basseley Youseff. He said he'd been using that name since 2002.
Lawrence Rosenthal, a constitutional and criminal law professor at Chapman University School of Law in Orange, said it was "highly unusual" for a judge to order immediate detention on a probation violation for a nonviolent crime, but if there were questions about Nakoula's identity it was more likely.
"When the prosecution doesn't really know who they're dealing with, it's much easier to talk about flight," Rosenthal said. "I've prosecuted individuals who'd never given a real address. You don't know who you're dealing with, and you're just going to have very limited confidence about their ability to show up in court."
A film permit listed Media for Christ, a Los Angeles-area charity run by other Egyptian Christians, as the production company for "Innocence of Muslims." Most of the film was made at the charity's headquarters. Steve Klein, an insurance agent in Hemet and outspoken Muslim critic, has said he was a consultant and promoter for the film.
The trailer still can be found on YouTube. The Obama administration asked Google, YouTube's parent, to take down the video. But the company has refused, saying the trailer didn't violate its content standards.
Nakoula has put his home up for sale, disconnected his phones and gone into hiding since violence erupted over the film.
Enraged Muslims have demanded punishment for Nakoula, and a Pakistani cabinet minister has offered a $100,000 bounty to anyone who kills him.
First Amendment advocates have defended Nakoula's right to make the film while condemning its content. And federal officials likely will face criticism from those who say Nakoula's free speech rights were trampled by his arrest on a probation violation.
Meanwhile, a number of actors and workers on the film have come forward to say they were tricked. They say they were hired for a film titled "Desert Warrior" and there was no mention of Islam or Muhammad in the script. Those references were dubbed in after filming was completed.
Actress Cindy Lee Garcia has sued to get the trailer taken down, saying she was duped.

LISBON (Reuters) - Thousands of Portuguese protested on Saturday against austerity, stepping up their opposition to the country's 78-billion-euro bailout ahead of new spending cuts and tax hikes to be announced in the government's 2013 draft budget.
The peaceful protest organized by the CGTP union came after the center-right government ignited widespread anger this month with a hike in social security taxes that threatened to end Portugal's so far high social acceptance for austerity.
Facing criticism from unions, opposition politicians and businesses alike, the government reversed the tax hike. But it is now rushing to find alternative measures to adopt in its 2013 budget to ensure the country meets fiscal goals under its bailout from the European Union, European Central Bank and IMF, the so-called troika.
Protesters marched through downtown Lisbon, shouting "Let the fight continue" and carried banners reading "Go to hell Troika, we want our lives back."
"A year ago the prime minister told us the solution to the country's problems was the agreement with the troika," shouted CGTP head Armenio Carlos in a speech.
"But we have already seen this film in Greece, this is a road without an exit, pushing us toward the precipice," Carlos told the marchers that crowded into Lisbon's main Praca de Comercio square on the banks of the Tagus River.
The protest in Portugal came after a week of similar anti-austerity marches in Greece, Spain and Italy as southern Europeans face increasingly grim economic conditions under hardship sparked by the euro debt crisis.
Carlos said the protest was one of the largest organized by the CGTP, Portugal's biggest union, in recent years but he gave no figure of the number of people present. Praca de Comercio square has a capacity of about 100,000 people but it was not completely full on Saturday.
The protests were smaller than nationwide marches on September 15, immediately after the tax hike was announced, which prompted an estimated 500,000 people to take to the streets.
Portugal's unemployment rate has hit record levels above 15 percent as the country descended this year into its worst recession since the 1970s under the weight of spending cuts and tax hikes.
Anger by the Portuguese at austerity is likely to rise further as the government now expects the recession to extend into next year with few signs of economic growth emerging from the bailout plan.
The government has to present its 2013 budget by the middle of October.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The Obama administration has directed immigration officials to recognize same-sex partners as family members in deportation cases, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Friday.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Pelosi in a letter that she had ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to notify its field offices "that the interpretation of the phrase ?family relationships' includes long-term, same-sex partners."
Pelosi welcomed the federal recognition of gay and lesbian couples. At the same time, she called for more to be done to protect undocumented immigrants in long-term relationships with American citizens.
Napolitano's directive "will provide a measure of clarity and confidence to families dealing with separation in immigration cases," Pelosi said in a written statement. "Our nation is served when loving families are kept together."
But she added: "We need to ... relegate DOMA to the dustbin of history." The 1996 Defense of Marriage Act bars the federal government from extending federal benefits, such as Social Security, to married gay and lesbian couples.
DOMA restricts the Obama administration from outright ordering that gay and lesbian couples be treated the same as heterosexual couples.
Last year, Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama called DOMA unconstitutional and said they would no longer defend the measure in court. In response, the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives stepped in to fund an effort to try to uphold the law.
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide next month whether it will review a number of cases questioning the constitutionality of DOMA.
Meanwhile, married couples like Brian Willingham, 38, and Alfonso Garcia, 35, of Orinda, California, have been fighting for the right to be considered related in the eyes of immigration authorities. After a traffic stop, officials began deportation proceedings against Garcia, who came to the United States from Mexico when he was 14.
"We're definitely happy that the Obama administration took this good first step," Willingham told Reuters Friday. "But it's just a Band-Aid. It helps us because we are faced with deportation. But it leaves thousands of couples in exile."
Immigration officials last year said they would consider same-sex partnerships as family relations in deciding whether to deport undocumented immigrants.
But 83 members of Congress led by Pelosi and Jerrold Nadler of New York criticized the government for unevenly applying the directive, and they pressed for written guidelines.
"This is a huge step forward," said Rachel B. Tiven, executive director of Immigration Equality, a national gay-rights group. "Until now, LGBT families and their lawyers had nothing to rely on but an oral promise. The administration's written guidance will help families facing separation and the field officers who are reviewing their cases."

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Syrians have moved some of their chemical weapons capability to better secure it, but the country's main chemical weapons sites remain intact and secure under government control, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Friday, citing U.S. intelligence.
Responding to questions about the security of Syria's chemical weapons sites, Panetta said U.S. intelligence showed the major Syrian sites were secure in government hands, but some chemicals had been moved.
It was not clear when the movement took place, or even if it was recent, but Panetta told a Pentagon news conference it had occurred in more than one case.
"There has been some intelligence that with regards to some of these sites, that there has been some movement in order for the Syrians to better secure ... the chemicals," he said. "So while there's been some limited movement, again the major sites still remain in place, still remain secure."
U.S. officials believe Syria potentially has dozens of chemical and biological weapons sites scattered across the country. Its stockpiles are thought to include nerve agents such as VX, sarin and tabun.
An 18-month-old uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has killed 30,000 people and the violence is escalating sharply, say activists. World powers are divided over the crisis, which has descended into civil war.
While the United States has not intervened militarily in Syria, President Barack Obama has warned Assad that any attempt to deploy or use chemical or biological weapons would cross a "red line" that could provoke U.S. action.
"We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is (if) we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized," Obama said in late August. "That would change my calculus."

CLEVELAND (AP) ? Someone had to be blamed for the Indians' collapse. Manager Manny Acta took the fall.
Acta, hired by Cleveland in 2009 after two losing seasons as Washington's manager, was fired Thursday by the Indians, who dropped from contention in July to last place in the AL Central.
Cleveland was within three games of first place on July 21 before losing 21 of 25, going 5-24 in August, and eventually sliding all the way to the bottom of its division. It certainly wasn't all Acta's fault, but there were times when the Indians seemed to be going through the motions and a lack of effort isn't a positive reflection on any manager.
Acta went 214-266 in nearly three seasons with the Indians, who are just 21-50 in the second half this season. Acta had one season left on his contract.
The Indians announced Acta will not return in 2013 on an off day before they opened a final homestand against Kansas City and the Chicago White Sox. If there is any solace to Acta it's that his final two games were road wins over the second-place White Sox, who are chasing Detroit for the division title.
Bench coach Sandy Alomar, a former Indians All-star catcher and fan favorite who could become Cleveland's next full-time manager, will replace Acta for the last six games of 2012.
The Indians said the search for a new manager will begin immediately. Acta's coaching staff will remain intact for the rest of this season.
Indians general manager Chris Antonetti, who probably shares some responsibility for the Indians' stunning drop this season, thanked Acta for his service.
"Manny's passion for the game, positive attitude and tremendous knowledge of baseball helped guide us to a number of high points during his tenure," Antonetti said in a statement. "Managerial changes are never easy or taken lightly, but as we approached the end of the season and turned our attention to assessing the year, we determined a change was necessary."
Earlier this month, owner Paul Dolan said he was not considering a managerial change, but the Indians continued to stumble and left the club with little choice. Dolan indicated the decision was made by Antonetti, who is in his second season.
"I have great respect for Manny and appreciate the effort he exhibited not only leading our team, but also the contributions he made in our community over the past three years," Dolan said in a statement. "I fully support Chris' decision to make this change and am confident that he will lead a tireless search to find the right individual to lead the club to our ultimate goal of winning the World Series."
The 43-year-old Acta maintained a stoic attitude during the Indians' freefall and insisted he wasn't concerned about his future but only about developing young players.
It didn't help him that several Cleveland players underperformed this season while others couldn't stay healthy. Former All-Star center fielder Grady Sizemore, who was signed to a one-year, $5 million free-agent contract in November despite missing most of the past three seasons with injuries, never got healthy enough to play. Designated hitter Travis Hafner missed several months with a bad back.
And Antonetti's major acquisition in 2011 of ace Ubaldo Jimenez failed to pay dividends as the right-hander went 9-17 with a 5.55 ERA.
After winning 80 games in 2011, the Indians entered the season with high hopes. It seemed as if they were in position to compete for a playoff spot before their inexplicable collapse, and Acta paid the steepest price.

STOCKHOLM - A British anti-arms trade campaign and promoters of peace, human rights and the environment from the United States, Afghanistan and Turkey have been named as winners of this year's Right Livelihood Awards, also known as the "alternative Nobels."
Gene Sharp, an American developer and promoter of nonviolent revolution techniques, will share the ?150,000 ($195,000) cash prize with Afghan doctor and human rights defender Sima Samar and the Britain-based Campaign Against Arms Trade.
Turkish environmentalist Hayrettin Karaca, who co-founded the TEMA foundation that has grown into an international movement that combats soil erosion and protects natural habitats, will receive an honorary prize for "a lifetime of tireless advocacy and support for the protection and stewardship of our natural world," the jury said.
The awards were founded in 1980 by Swedish-German philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull to recognize work he felt was being ignored by the Nobel Prizes.
The prize jury said that Sharp, whose research into peaceful protests has inspired thousands and influenced social movements in Iran, Myanmar and Egypt, was cited for developing "strategies of nonviolent resistance and supporting their practical implementation in conflict areas."
He has written widely on the subject, and has advised governments and social movements on how to end oppression without using violence.
Described by the jury as "a doctor of the poor," Afghanistan's Samar was honoured for her "longstanding and courageous dedication" to human rights in her homeland. She has helped establish hundreds of schools and dozens of health-care clinics aimed at helping the poor, especially women and children, through the Shuhada Organization and the Shuhada Clinic, founded in 1989.
Samar also helped establish Afghanistan's first Ministry of Women's Affairs. Since 2004 she has chaired the country's Independent Human Rights Commission.
The Campaign Against Arms Trade, or CAAT, was cited for increasing public awareness of the global arms trade. Through its campaigning, the jury said, CAAT has exposed "the corruption, hypocrisy and lethal consequences around this trade and has been instrumental in holding the U.K. government and arms companies to account for the same."
The prizes will be presented to the winners at a ceremony in the Swedish Parliament on Dec. 7, three days before this year's Nobel Prizes are handed out.

The number of people suffering from type 2 diabetes world-wide has risen rapidly in recent years, and scientists estimate that just as many people could be suffering from the illness without realising it. New research now indicates that your gut bacteria can reveal whether you suffer from the disease.
"We have demonstrated that people with type 2 diabetes have a high level of pathogens in their intestines," says professor Jun Wang from the University of Copenhagen's Department of Biology and Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research.
Important intestinal bacteria
The 1.5 kilograms of bacteria that we each carry in our intestines have an enormous impact on our health and well being. The bacteria normally live in a sensitive equilibrium but if this equilibrium is disrupted our health could suffer. In the new study, scientists examined the intestinal bacteria of 345 people from China, of which 171 had type 2 diabetes. The team managed to identify clear biological indicators that someday could be used in methods that provide faster and earlier diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
The research, which was recently published in the scientific journal Nature, also demonstrated that people with type 2 diabetes have a more hostile bacterial environment in their intestines, which can increase resistance to different medicines.
Similar studies carried out on sufferers of type 2 diabetes in Denmark also discovered a significant imbalance in the function of their intestinal bacteria and composition. Future Danish studies will examine whether intestinal bacteria is already abnormal in people that are deemed to be at risk of developing diabetes.
"We are going to transplant gut bacteria from people that suffer from type 2 diabetes into mice and examine whether the mice then develop diabetes," says another of the lead scientists behind the project, professor Oluf Borbye Pedersen from the University of Copenhagen and centre director at LuCamp, the Lundbeck Foundation Centre for Applied Medical Genomics in Personalised Disease Prediction, Prevention and Care.International research team investigates gut bacteria
By working together, a team scientists from the University of Copenhagen and the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) was able to make to several breakthroughs in the field of 'metagenomics'.
Scientists working on the EU research project MetaHIT have uncovered more than 3.3 million genes from gut bacteria found in people from Spain and Denmark. These genes could play a key role in understanding and treating a range of serious illnesses. According to Professor Karsten Kristiansen from the University of Copenhagen's Department of Biology, the recent discovery is an important step in the comprehensive international research that is currently underway to investigate the interplay between intestinal bacteria and health.
"The European and Chinese working on the MetaHIT project were able to make important new discoveries about the relationship between intestinal bacteria and health. The new discovery indicates a possible connection between type 2 diabetes and the intestinal bacteria in Chinese people," Kristiansen says.
"It is important to point out that our discovery demonstrates a correlation. The big question now is whether the changes in gut bacteria can affect the development of type 2 diabetes or whether the changes simply reflect that the person is suffering from type 2 diabetes."

Imagine an electronic medical device implanted inside you that monitors your temperature for signs of infection after surgery, then melts away. Or a wireless environmental sensor that decomposes without harming any living creature. Or a phone that you can toss on the compost heap as soon as a newer version hits stores. These devices are closer to reality, because researchers have created degradable electronics that function for a set time?and then dissolve. The work is in the journal Science. [Suk-Won Hwang et al, A Physically Transient Form of Silicon Electronics]
Silicon compounds, the basis of many electronic devices, will eventually degrade in water or bodily fluids. But the process takes hundreds of years. To speed it up, scientists built devices out of extremely thin layers of silicon, along with magnesium, which is naturally found in the human body. These items can quickly fade away in even small volumes of water.
To control the rate the devices disappeared, they were coated in layers of protective silk. The more silk, the longer the transient electronics will last.
Just think of the commercials: ?Buy the newest iPhone?before it disappears!?

The Upper House of the Japanese Diet approved the bill by a vote of 221-12, less than a week after the measure cleared the lower house with almost no opposition. Violators risk up to two years in prison or fines up to two million yen (about $25,000).
Opponents of the bill worry it will lead to unnecessary prosecutions because of the way it is written. To face charges, a person must be aware that the material is illegal to download.
?We shouldn?t risk making the general public ? including youths ? the subject of criminal investigations,? said Upper House member Yuko Mori, as quoted in the Japan Times.
Japanese attorney Toshimitsu Dan told IT Media that even watching a YouTube video could be grounds for arrest ?if the viewer is aware that downloading [such material] is illegal.?
Unauthorized uploading and downloading of copyrighted material such as music, movies and video games have been illegal in Japan for years, but until now only uploaders were subject to criminal penalties: up to 10 years in prison or fines as much as 10 million yen ($125,000), according to the Times.

Car owners have one common enemy that they really hate a lot: auto insurance. They have to pay extremely high premiums especially for wider insurance coverage like car insurance for seniors.
For these kinds of coverage, the premium is more expensive because of the high risk factor. But since there is a great risk involved, getting insurance becomes more important. It?s not all about following legal requisites.
There are so many reasons why it is required for people to get these special coverage such as auto insurance for seniors. It?s not all because of the amount you can get for an accident. It is also a good way for you to be able to sleep soundly and securely knowing that you are prepared for the uncertain future.
For older people getting a car insurance for a senior citizen is really essential. Though they can still manage to do basic tasks like driving and they can still take care of themselves, they are already prone to various accidents. No matter how careful you are, these things still happen.
Because of this situation, auto insurance for a senior citizen costs more than the usual insurances. Many seniors prefer not to drive because of this reason. They don?t know that there are ways for them to lower senior car insurance payments. Here are some useful tips for you to find a good insurance deal:
* Needs first-start by thinking and listing down the insurance requirements that you have. If you are specific it will make you pay higher, but your gains will be realized in the end.
* Look for options- don?t settle for the first offer that you get. try looking for other options. You can search the web for this.
* Compare-try to see the differences in the offers of various car insurance providers. This will guide you as to which one has the insurance coverage that you need at the most reasonable cost.
Note that getting a special type of car insurance like senior auto insurance is not all about getting a cheap policy. It is more important to take into account the trustworthiness of the company and the compatibility of their policy to the needs that you have established earlier.
The article speaks about the importance of car insurance and the ways on how to get a good deal. For more information on auto insurance for senior please click this link.

LONDON (AP) ? A British court issued an interim injunction Wednesday blocking the extradition of a radical cleric to the United States on terror charges, granting a court hearing for an appeal.
Mustafa Kamal Mustafa ? who is better known as Abu Hamza al-Masri ? challenged his extradition on charges that include helping set up a terrorist training camp in rural Oregon. The appeal marked yet another legal twist in a case that has wound its way through the courts for eight years.
Khaled Al-Fawwaz, a second terror suspect, has also mounted a legal challenge before Britain's High Court.
Britain's Home Office immediately challenged the appeals.
Judicial authorities said in a statement that a hearing would be held Tuesday to consider the two men's applications. Sonn Macmillan Walker, a London law firm representing al-Masri, declined to provide details "given the sensitive nature of this matter."
The grounds of al-Masri's appeal were not immediately clear, but it was certain to stoke an ongoing debate in Britain about extradition laws. Critics have charged that the country's laws allow litigants to drag out their cases for years.
Lawyer Karen Todner, an extradition specialist, said the men would have to show the judge evidence of a new argument that had not been previously considered.
"They could only have gone back to court on a new matter that wasn't apparent before, such as a new health situation," she said.
The appeals follow a European court decision Monday that was believed to have cleared the way for the cleric's extradition and that of four other suspects after an eight-year legal battle.
The Egyptian-born former nightclub bouncer, who claimed he lost his eye and hands fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan, used north London's Finsbury Park Mosque as a base to persuade young Muslims to take up the cause of holy war. The mosque was once attended by Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and "shoe bomber" Richard Reid.
After the Sept. 11 terror attacks, the cleric praised Osama bin Laden and declared "many people will be happy, jumping up and down at this moment." He is wanted in the U.S. on multiple terrorism-related charges, including assisting in the taking of 16 hostages ? including two American tourists ? in Yemen in 1998 and conspiring to set up a terrorist training camp in Bly, Oregon, between 2000 and 2001.
He is serving a jail sentence in Britain on separate charges of inciting hatred.

One of the ways I?ve gotten to know new people in my town is through craft day.? I?d love to take the credit for it but, my talented friends Reeve and Angela are the brains behind it, I?m just the one who is too lazy to leave the house so I?ve been the host. So really?? They?ve done all the hard work. And if you ask them, they probably don?t even think it?s hard.
Here?s why we started a craft day:
1. we love to do little crafts
2. we wanted to be together
3. we each had some crafty friends and thought it would be fun to introduce them all
It was Reeve?s idea to invite me and Angela to join in a Crafty Day Pinterest board.?? This was SO SMART because we could easily pin potential craft day ideas and then when it was time to decide which ideas we actually wanted to consider, we could all pick our top two or three ideas from the craft board and talk about what would work for a group.? Sometimes we met for coffee and made a decision, sometimes we just emailed.
Here?s how craft day works:
There are three of us who plan it and we each have a job that we like:
Reeve sent out the emails (OK, so she went all out and made invitations because she?s awesome, but you don?t have to do fancy invites) email is fine?just have someone in charge of that part who is organized.
Angela usually taught the craft.? She?s really good at explaining things so it worked out well.
I usually hosted and bought the supplies because I like to stay home but when I am out, I?m usually at craft store.? Sometimes we would all go together to get supplies if we had time, that part was really fun too.
Last winter and fall we had craft day once a month (it works best to have it on the same day?like the 3rd Monday or something) and a few weeks before craft day the three of us would decide on the craft and Reeve sent out the invites.? We?d get a rough count of how many would be there (usually 6-8) but an exact number didn?t matter (like when we did the doily bowls, we had some extra doilies just in case).
I?d buy whatever supplies we needed (usually it was pretty cheap) and fix some food because food fixin? is one of my spiritual gifts and I like doing that.? We?d keep a jar out for anyone who came who could to put $5 in for the supplies.? We didn?t keep track or anything and it always worked out fine.
Angela would explain the craft and demonstrate and we?d all talk and laugh and eat and hot glue off our fingerprints.
It was a great excuse to get together and it?s so nice to have something to keep your hands busy while you are meeting new people.? Crafts are a great ice breaker and such a low commitment?you could just have a one time craft day for your neighborhood if you want to meet some new people.?? Or maybe you and two friends just want to have a great excuse to get together, you don?t have to invite a bunch of people you don?t know.
I wrote about three of our craft days, check them out for more photos and ideas:
